Our mission

In 2004, a group of local watersports enthusiasts started a grassroots effort to bring a top pro wakeboarder to Lake Murray. The effort was a success, and the group dubbed ‘The Rough Riders’ hosted a weekend with two pro wakeboarders the following summer. In the years after, the event continued and gained support of local boat dealers and businesses. A variety of pros have attended the event throughout the years from Shaun Murray to Josh Palma to Steel Lafferty to Reed Hansen. ‘Weekend With The Pros’ has grown since 2005 to a two day event attended by over 1,200 spectators. It has become the largest watersport event on Lake Murray and in South Carolina.
2017’s Weekend With The Pros is the 12th straight year of the annual event. For the first time in the event’s history, the Pro Wakeboard Show will be able to be seen from land (rather than just from a boat) in front of The Frayed Knot in Chapin. We can’t wait to see you on the lake!

MEET THE PROS

Every year, we are astounded by the pro talent that comes to participate in Weekend With The Pros with us. 2017 is no exception. We are thrilled to announce that Shaun Murray will be back again this year, along with newcomer Steel Lafferty. They are among the most talented and most exciting riders out there, and you will not want to miss seeing them!

SHAUN MURRAY

From Shaun's Website: I grew up in Southern California where our family got to waterski and kneeboard a few times a year. We were out in the boat getting ready to ride our new retractable-fin kneeboard in the Carlsbad Lagoon when I saw some guy (who I think was Tony Finn) ride by us on a Skurfer. It was 1987 and I was 11 years old. I said, “Dad, I want one of those kneeboards you stand up on!” He quickly replied, “Read my lips, son…you’re NEVER gonna get one of those!” He and I will always remember that moment like it was yesterday because his first name (and my middle name), Belmont, has been branded on one of the best-selling wakeboards in history.
Who would have thought?

STEEL LAFFERTY

Steel Lafferty certainly embodies all the characteristics you'd expect from one of the rising stars of the wakeboarding world. Fun and upbeat, Steel has a larger-than-life personality and the future of the sport at his feet.

Steel lives with fellow wakers Kevin Henshaw, Parks Bonifay, Danny Harf and Rusty Malinoski in Clermont, Florida. He knows that to be the best he has to train with the best. "They ride with me and push me to be the best wakeboarder on and off the water", he says. And luckily he has a strong work ethic, too. "I feel like being the best wakeboarder in the world is not only winning every contest, but being the best all-round rider which includes videos, photos and rail riding." As well as winning first place at the nationals, Steel dominated the Masters and PWT five competitions gaining huge credibility among his peers.

Steel has set a few 'firsts' himself. He's the first wakeboarder to land a wake to wake 1080 and a toeside backside 900 off a double up. "To be able to be the first person in the WHOLE WORLD to land a new trick wakeboarding and always being a part of wakeboarding’s history is so sick."

When he's not on the water, he still keeps active. Find him at the golf course or shooting hoops on the basketball court if he's not at one of his favourite wake parks.

We would like to say a big THANK YOU to all of 2017’s Weekend With The Pros sponsors. This event would not be possible without them and we are grateful for their sponsorship, participation, and support. All 3 sponsors will be participating in our in-water boat show at The Frayed Knot and we encourage you to come out, talk with them, and see what boats they have to offer you.

meet our sponsers

Did you know that there are three different ways to see the Pro Wakeboard Show this year? You can view the show from your boat, from land at The Frayed Knot, or (our favorite way), you can watch the show from one of the tow boats pulling the pros! That’s right: you can have front row seats to watch Shaun Murray and Steel Lafferty soar, jump, twist, flip, and throw all of their biggest tricks around Lake Murray. Bonus? In between sets, you get to hang out with both Shaun and Steel on the boat. Does it get any cooler than that? Nope!

WEEKEND WITH THE PROS THROUGH THE YEARS

From it’s humble, grass-roots beginnings back in 2005 through today, Weekend With The Pros has grown like crazy. This event has thrived thanks all of the support and participation from the local Lake Murray community over the last decade and we could not be more grateful. We have made so many memories with you all and we love reliving them after the weekend is over.

Get pumped for this year’s Weekend With The Pros by looking back at our photos from the last 12 years. Which year was your favorite? How many Pro Shows have you attended? We’ll see you out there this year on June 17th!
